WHEN Michael Roberts scored a classic halfback?s try from the base of the scrum in the 77th minute one could be forgiven for briefly forgetting the score and imagining you had witnessed the winning try. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Robert?s solo effort was nothing more than a consolation in the most egregious defensive effort by Redcliffe in the history of the Queensland Cup.
REDCLIFFE will walk the semi finals tight rope after capitulating to Easts 46 ? 36 in a heart wrenching Queensland Cup loss on Saturday.
THE inclusion of Rodney Howe was not enough to get Norths over the line against the Burleigh Bears in their Queensland Cup clash today. Burleigh defeated the Devils 27 - 20 to move into the top five for the first time this season. Redcliffe remain undefeated after a tough hitout with Tweed while Toowoomba are just two points behind after a 46 - 6 defeat of the injury struck Brothers-Valleys club. Wynnum held third place on the ladder with a 26 - 20 win over Easts who continue to underperform despite boasting international Darren Smith at lock. Meanwhile North Qld and Central kept their season's on track with wins this round.
AFTER two years in the Brisbane competition Brothers-Valleys have been accepted into the 2004 Queensland Cup. The decision to admit them was made easier for the QRL after foundation Club Wests Panthers chose to withdraw.
