G?DAY everyone we are well and truly into the season now and we are sitting pretty well on the ladder. Despite a couple of ordinary performances in the last few games we have managed to get seven players into the City side to play Country. Unfortunately Nick Emmett had to withdraw from the side after being suspended but big prop Pat Gardner comes into the 17 in his spot. It is good to finally see Danny Burke get some recognition from the rep selectors. He has been one of our best for the last few years but when it came rep time his name was never one read out, well done Burkey. Also good to see Mario Guimelli gets a start for the Queensland Rangers side on their tour of New Zealand. While talking about rep footy how about former Dolphin Adam Mogg?s debut for Queensland in State of Origin two at Lang Park. He was sensational I know quite a few Reddy guys were at the game supporting him. I watched it at home with my boys, I was proud as punch to tell them I used to play with Moggy. They just looked at me and laughed and said yeah dad sure, that brought me down to earth real quick.I?ve been doing a bit more research to come up with some more nicknames of the boys to share with you I?ve heard Richie Russell is Cadbury?s, Sam Schull from the Colts is Herman. We have the Spaghetti Brothers in the backline in A Grade Chris Guimelli and Adam Luchetti, Tim Yee is Rowdy because he speaks so much. I know you have been waiting for the Shannon Fish update for this month and yes he does have one comment that sticks to my mind immediately. The boys were in the sheds one night when Fishy popped up and asked what month is Oktoberfest in. And it appears Ryan Cullen has been hanging out with Shannon too long. Ryan got called up to train with the Broncos and Coach Wayne Bennett asked him his what his Christian name was, Ryan just looked at Wayne with a funny look on his face and said what do you mean Wayne replied what?s your first name you goose.Reports are filtering back to me from all over the state from the millions and millions of readers from my column. When the City side came into Mt Isa they saw a big lake and one our boys in the side who plays prop and it wasn?t Starry or Cow said Gees the sea comes in a long way up here. It?s great to see young Timmy Yee getting a few games in the top grade, even he isn?t all that familiar with the position he is making a good fist of it. It?s good to see the senior players still try and test out the rookies, when the boys were at the airport to go to Rockhampton Danny Burke asked Timmy if he had his passport for the trip, I have it on good authority Burkey got caught with that same trick when he was a youngster. The Club is chasing any videos of games or highlights from the 1970?s or 1980?s apart from the grand finals if anybody out there can help can they get in contact with the club.Until Next Month Cheers RobboUp the Dolphins

ANOTHER month has flown by and the mighty Dolphins are still sitting top of the ladder as As I write this we are in the week of the top of the table clash with the Young Guns it should be a bottler, I hope a big crowd gets to Dolphin Oval and cheers the boys? home.

WE are back in the real stuff now playing for two points each week. After some patchy trial form the Dolphins have started with two solid wins.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Gees it was finally good to see some footy action on the weekend even though it was a trial it was just good to see a live footy game.I am a fan of the new strip the boys are now wearing it is very much like the old Dolphins strips from the late 70?s and 80?s. It was a fair crowd for a trial, about 2000 I?d say and although it wasn?t the Broncos big names I think there will be a few future stars come out of that lot. It was a decent hit out for the boys although the end of the game got a bit scrappy. The combinations will come and in a few weeks that?ll just be a distant memory.Greg Bourke has bulked up a lot and not an ounce of fat (a lot like myself) I heard one guy quip he looks like he swallowed a body builder. It was good to see Mark Shipway back in Redcliffe colours after 10 years and didn?t he excite the pig pen with a few bone rattlers on the young Broncs.I think the guys were really happy to be on the field without trainer Tony Guilfoyle putting them through some cruel and unusual punishment. I was impressed with a few of the new players Pat Gardner now he likes a collision I think in his next life he will come back as a dodgem car or a wrecking ball, Kaine Manihera was good at times and I think our new half Marty Turner will get better and better each game for us. Alwyn Simpson in the reggies played well as did Phil Daisy, Michael Wilson and Tim Benson in the colts. Not that you could really class Tim as a new comer I remember when he was our mascot and led us out onto the field gees I am getting old.Well it had to happen sooner or later and most of us expected sooner Shannon Fish has come out with another clanger that he is famous for when he was talking to a few of the boys after the game he was telling them how happy he was with his new girlfriend and how he wouldn?t be going out with them on that night, he said ?I am a one man women? somehow I think he meant one woman man but keep it up Fishy you give me plenty of material. I attended the junior sign on day and once again I was blown away 200 new signings to the club the line up went for more than 50 metres and I think we signed up more than 700 kids on the day it was just amazing. Also how a bloke this guy I?m talking about Petero Civoniceva who gave up his own time to come along to the sign on and mix with both the kids and parents for over an hour. Petero of course is a local junior but these guys have so much dumped on them and don?t always get a lot of free time for him to do it I think was just great, and to see the smiles on the kids faces it was worth a million dollars. Now one last thing I won?t mention names for fear of my safety who are the two former Dolphins hardmen who never gave an inch when they played who have sons playing in the juniors who are dying their hair, like I said I won?t mention names I might get my ears BOXed in and I can?t fight like WBO lightweight champion Artur GrIGorian.Until next month Cheers Robbo

FIRST off I hope everybody has a good Christmas and new year. And if anyone is struggling with Christmas present ideas just pop out and see the Keystar team a new car would make a great present. The boys are back in training under the guidance of Serjeant Major Tony Guilfoyle who is really giving the boys a hiding, I was almost sick and I was just watching. Terry Webb even joined in the ?fun? taking part in the conditioning session and for all you who know Spider he had the perfect preparation a dart, but he still beat some guys 25 years younger home. He even asked CEO James Hinchey if he wanted to sign him up to play. There are a few new faces at the moment but the back row looks especially strong with the addition of Richie Russell from Port Macquarie and the return of Mark Shipway from the Salford Reds on top the class back rowers we already have it should be a red hot challenge for a top grade spot. If you attended the first training session you could have been excused for thinking you were in a time warp and thinking it was 1981 running beside each other were some famous names at Dolphin Oval Obst, Jones, Webb and Benson but before you think James Hinchey has gone nuts and signed up Tony Obst, Bob Jones, Terry Webb and Trevor Benson it was their sons Sam, Terry, Jack and Tim. And no before you ask Sam Obst isn?t returning to Dolphin Oval (Yet) he is just training with the boys for a few weeks before he heads back to his club in England Wakefield Wildcats.Another new player to Dolphin Oval is former Melbourne Storm half back Marty Turner who joins the Dolphins from the Oldham Roughyeds I hope that is Roughyeds and not Rough Heads. Another player looking good is Matty Gruszka who powered his way through the first few sessions after dropping a few kilos in the break.Once again it was old men Adam Starr and Troy Lindsay who led the way in the runs. Cow who is claiming only to be 30 for the third year in a row is set to become the most capped Dolphin of all time next year he sits on 247 first grade games now and is closing in on Peter Leis record of 261 games. And don?t dare mention the R word (Retirement) to Cow he says he has at least two good years left in him. I tell you he?s a freak. Most of the players returned in pretty good shape but there were a couple who looked they enjoyed their break a little too much which had Tony Guilfoyle salivating at the cruel punishment he could hand out, let me tell you that man is a sadist. But after casting my eye over the squad I reckon the Dolphins will be in for a good year and after last years finish there are a lot of players looking to go one step further.Until Next Month Cheers RobboMerry Christmas

WELL it?s all over for another year and it finished with a heartbreaking last minute loss to Burleigh with a try by of all people the ?Jive Bunny? Trent Leis in the shadows of the fulltime hooter. I was talking to Peter Leis before the game and he was looking for a place to hide he obviously wanted Burleigh and Trent to do well but he still has a special connection with the Dolphins. The finish painfully reminded me of some other heartbreaking losses over the years a couple I was involved with. I will post a warning now the next few lines will revive painful memories.2001 Queensland Cup Grand Final at Dolphin Oval Casey McGuire scores with a minute to go next to the posts to sink the Dolphins. 1996 Queensland Cup Grand Final at Lang Park Kyle Warren came from nowhere to drag ME down a centimetre from the try line even Gerry Collins calling the game on ABC TV thought I would score but my little legs just wouldn?t take me any faster.1981 BRL First Grade Grand Final Chris Phelan for the first and last time in his career passes a ball to an unmarked Mick Reardon who scores in the corner despite attempts by Bunny Pearce and Louta Atoi to get to him in time.It seems we have a challenger for Professor Shannon Fish?s title as the club?s geography master. A month or so back a Fijian junior side was playing at Dolphin Oval and the Queensland Cup side was getting ready for training in the sheds when Redcliffe High school teacher Michael Roberts popped up with this beauty ?Where are this Fijian side from? well Mick I?m no expert but I?d guess they are from Fiji.As summer comes the boys are taking a well earned break getting ready for trainer Sergeant Major Tony Guilfoyles? cruel and unusual punishment he has lined up for pre season training which will probably start late October or early November. This time last year the club made the tough decision to go in a new direction and appointed Anthony Griffin as the Head Coach and he?s done a good job getting the side to within 4 minutes of the grand final. He?ll be the first to admit he didn?t do it alone trainer Tony Guilfoyle, Lower Grade Coaches Ian Graham and Craig Ingebrigtsen done a great job also getting their sides into the semi finals. They are the names most fans would know but there are also a few others who need mentioning Gary O?Brien was Anthony?s assistant with the Qld Cup side, Mick Neiland our co-ordinator also done a great job as well as the all the coloured shirt brigade of trainers Foo, Jeremy, Silent, Eddie, Casa and Danny the club wouldn?t work without you blokes. The back room medical staff of Doc Peter Hackney, Physio?s Steve Falconer and James Handyside and masseuse Lynnete has done an awesome job getting the boys on the park each week. Here are the Robbo?s for this yearQueensland Cup Player of the Year Danny BurkeA Grade Player of the Year Chris FoxColts Player of the Year Mick ParesOne thing is for sure I?ve just put a mocker on these guys so they are no chance of winning awards announced Sept 30 at the presentation.Until next month Cheers Robbo

FROM the penultimate round of fixtures (Do you like that big word I?m pretty impressed with myself) the best the Dolphins can look to is fourth spot and a home semi final against Toowoomba. But to be more than just passengers in the semi?s we will have to come to play. Against Toowoomba on the TV it just didn?t look like the Redcliffe team we all know and I think the score flattered us a bit. But in saying that we know we didn?t play well and to be in the contest up until the last ten minutes was encouraging. The lower grades continue to go along in their respective comps with reggies in second and colts in fourth. The colts pulled off what most people would call an upset when they beat Wests/Broncos colts at Purtell Park. Coach Craig Inge Inga, Ingle umm Trigger tipped CEO James Hinchey that it would be a good game and that we?d be in it with a big show. Well they were more than just in it well done boys. I hope the crowds get along to the Norths game which maybe the last home game for the season depending on other results. There is nothing better than playing in front of a big vocal Dolphin Crowd so grab a few mates and get along and cheer home the boys. Now another one from Geography Professor Shannon Fish, when talking to Ryan Cullen, Ryan told him how his girlfriend Amy was in Switzerland and Shannon replied she?d better watch out for all those Swedish men. Now Shannon I?m no Rhodes Scholar but even I know Swedish men are in Sweden and Swiss men are in Switzerland. Adam Starr season appears to over after suffering an eye socket injury against Toowoomba but he could always pick up an extra few bucks being a pirate seeing he is walking around with patch on his eye. And there is no truth to the rumour that his daughter Jade asked him if he was Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles. Cowboy Troy Lindsay becomes the first player in the ten year history or the Queensalnd Cup to chalk up 200 games what a great achievement for front rower. But props have it easy these days they only play half a game not like us tough as nails half backs who have to play 80 minutes every week. Of course I am only joking and looking at Cow?s stats for the last few games 60, 58, and 55 involvements. I?m sure he?s found a fountain of youth out on the farm. I believe he has signed on again for next year which would make it an amazing sixteen seasons playing senior footy for Redcliffe. But it?s funny when you look at Cows and Starry?s player profiles sheets they?ve handed from the last few years one year they are born 1973 then 1974 then 1975 then 1976.

IT?S been an indifferent month for the Pepsi Dolphins a few weeks off we copped a flogging and handed one out. Unfortunately we copped the touch up at home but that was only a hiccup we bounced back with a good effort against Souths Logan and I?m sure we will give a good account of ourselves against Wynnum and North Queensland in the upcoming weeks.

I would like to start off giving someone a wrap, I don?t usually do this but I think it?s well deserved with so many of NRL players being in the headlines for the wrong reasons when they do something good it?s not often recognised. Not that this fella wants any recognition for doing it in fact he?d probably rather I not mention it all but I will. Broncos, Queensland and Australian star Petero Civoniceva went back to where it all began on the training fields at Dolphin Oval. What?s so unusual about that you ask well this just happened to be at 9.00 on a Saturday morning after he played a starring role for Broncos in their win over Manly the night before. Petero came down and ran around with the kids training and signed what seemed like a 1000 autographs for half an hour or so and he done this at a time he so easily could?ve been spending it with own family. If you could have seen the smiles on all the kids faces it was gold. Well done Petero you are a great role model and ambassador for the game. Footy wise the season is coming along nicely but there is a long to go and a lot of hard work still be to done. I have people coming up to me and asking can Reddy make the finals this year. I said in a word yes and I?ll take it a step further I believe we can win the competition. Burleigh are certainly the benchmark at the moment, while the Young Guns, Toowoomba and Norths seasons really are decided on what happens with the Cowboys, Broncos and Storm. And then you have Easts and Wynnum who will be there abouts. But I believe when we are firing we can match and get on top of any of these sides. The boys are working really hard at training and in the gym and I believe the results will come. Now onto the serious stuff. For years the Club has had a Goose of the Week award perennial past winners were guys like Trent Clayton and the Jones boys, one year we even changed the name to Jones of the Week because it seemed like one of the brothers would win it every week. But now we have a new contender Shannon Fish, he is in the grand final with those other boys mentioned. I mentioned in another column how he thought Romanian girls come from Rome. Well he?s come up with another couple of classics. Shannon was watching Getaway with Lou Starr when they done a story from Perth, Shannon made the comment ?Perth is that anywhere near Western Australia?. Lou asked him what did you say and he replied the same again and Lou just sat their shaking her head. Another time Adam Starr was playing his one his favourite CD?s by the Doors and with Shannon being a fair bit younger than the veteran front rower asked Fish have you heard of the Doors to which Shannon replied yeah yeah they are good and I really like their lead singer Mick Jagger. I can?t print Starry?s reply this being a family column and all. Now Shannon I know Mick Jagger may look like he?s dead but Jim Morrison was the Doors lead singer and has been dead since 1971. I wonder who the lead singer of the Rolling Stones is these days . After Shane Perry dying his hair it seems the trend is continuing with rugged second rower Danny Burke turning up to training with a red tinge in his hair one week and the next week black. When Burkey was asked by one of the boys why black he replied it?s not black it?s dark wood. It seems one of the players has got the nickname Snuffy after the Sesame Street character Mr Snuffleupagus I guess he must be a closet Sesame Street watcher. Another one from the no names files just who is the former Dolphin hardman of the 90?s who can be seen taking his dog for a walk in a cardigan. What is strange about that you may ask well the fact is the dog is one the one wearing a cardigan and the dog is a Chihuahua. I would tell you who it is but I?m scared what he might to do me when he sees me next, he might Crush me or something. Until next month Cheers Robbo
