Sharks survive a scare to record 14th straight victory

v BYE

The run continues for the Sharks, as they survived a late scare from a youthful Roosters team to record a 32-20 victory at Sydney Football Stadium tonight.

A look at the final scoreline would suggest the Sharks did it easy tonight on the route to victory but they were tested from the opening minute from a Roosters side that welcomed back their two origin stars.

Mitchell Aubusson pounced on an error from Siosia Feki to give the Roosters a six point lead after 120 seconds. From there though, it all went wrong for the home side as they next touched the ball it was 10-6.

First Valentine Holmes showed a clean pair of heels to finish off a backline movement and Jack Bird fresh from his second origin, terrorised the Roosters right side defense of Copley and Tupou all night, as it seemed a long night loomed for the 15th placed Roosters.

In his first start in the halves, Cameron Watson showed glimpses of the talent which has Roosters officials opting to persevere with him. He sliced through a huge gap and made it 10-all.

Some more slick passing from the premership leaders gave them the lead going into the break. Townsend set up Luke Lewis with the face ball to stroll in for the score and a 16-10 scoreline at half-time. Roosters showed some promise but their own enthusiasm let them down at times in the contest.

Sharks extended their lead to the largest of the night, 18 points after 52 minutes. Once again, Ben Barba was in the thick of the action as he laid the try on for Feki. When your luck is in, anything is possible. Chad Townsend finished off a last tackle raid from an unlikely Gerard Beale kick for a 26-12 scoreline.

Roosters refused to go away though, Watson used some slight of hand to put Dale Copley in for his first try of the season before Daniel Tupou and Latrell Mitchell were denied by the bunker.

Tupou wasn't denied with ten minutes to go, as he linked with Mitchell to plant the ball down inches inside the touchline. 26-20 and the Sharks were on the ropes, clinging onto a six point lead.

Feki turned out to the matchwinner, as an errant pass to Ferguson fell to the centre and he streaked away to seal the victory and send the traveling Sharks fans into raptures with their 14th straight victory.

Next week the Sharks will take on a cellar dweller for the second straight week, hosting the Knights in the Shire on Sunday as they search for win fifteen; while the Roosters have it just as tough as they face the second placed Storm in Melbourne.
