Titans too flashy for resilient Eels

The Gold Coast Titans have taken revenge on their first leg defeat in the unofficial Nathan Peats cup with a 34-14 win over the Parramatta Eels at Cbus Super Stadium in front of 15,000 fans.

The Titans started the same way as the Eels did against the Panthers racing out to 14-0 with an early try to Konrad Hurrell before the Titans got a second when from one wing Nene McDonald put in a kick for an unmarked Anthony Don on the other wing and after the perfect bounce Don scored and another missed conversion left the score at 8-0.

At the 20 minute mark the Titans then made it 12-0 with Chris McQueen having too much strength for the Eels defence and after Ash Taylor took over goal kicking it went out to 14-0.

Kenny Edwards then showed his strength one on one against Ash Taylor to score out wide and again Michael Gordon's goal kicking wasn't flash and the Titans to a 14-4 lead to the half time break.

The second half was nowhere near as frantic as what the first half was with double the total errors and it took 20 minutes for the first try to come up when Bevan French scored to take the score to 14-8 after Michael Gordon missed another conversion.

The last 15 minutes saw the Titans run in three tries with tries coming to the bomb disposal expert in Nene McDonald then Chris McQueen got his double with 8 minutes to play. Parramatta got a consolation try through Jeff Robson with four minutes to go before Ash Taylor finished the scoring with an intercept seconds remaining to round out the 34-14 victory.

Next week the Titans have a tough task up against the Cronulla Sharks at home on Monday night while the Eels have to take on the Tigers.
