Provided the foundation for the New Zealand win. Making huge metres during the first half scoring frenzy, Taupau ran for 144 metres for the Kiwis.

Crossing for two tries and denied a third, the man dubbed "The Beast" was outstanding with the ball, causing havoc for the Australians. Making over 140 metres, Vatuvei was awarded the Charles Savory Medal as Best on Ground by the international selectors.
