Knights run rampant in Wauchope trial

THE Knights might have scored a combined total of 86 points in two halves of football in Wauchope on Saturday, but it was a night which came at a cost.

Halfback Jaelen Feeney suffered a suspected broken arm when he reeled out of a tackle in the second half while centre Pat Mata'utia had to be helped from the field with an injury to his left ankle soon after.

Despite the injuries, coach Rick Stone was happy with the performance of his side, which at times resembled a training run.

They ran rampant to the tune of 54-0 against the Port Sharks and 32-0 against the Wauchope Blues.

"We just needed an opposition to play, especially with the World Challenge we've struggled to get a couple of games but to bring a game up here's been good, we've got some support from the Port Sharks and the Wauchope Blues boys and it's pretty early in the pre-season for them, but for us it's an important hit-out," he said.

"There's a couple of injuries there for us which is a bit of a concern.

"Pat Mata'utia and Jaelen Feeney will get some x-rays tonight and we'll find out a bit more about them, but apart from them it's been a really good exercise."

Front rower Kade Snowden was strong up front and he was ably supported by five-eighth Tyler Randell and fullback Nathan Ross.

"Snowy was a colossus up front. He was really powerful and Rossy's always dangerous at the back," Stone said.

"I thought Tyler was nearly our pick. He bobbed up all around the place and ran out of dummy half and scored a couple of tries, kicked a couple of goals and seemed to be at the right place at the right time and made some right play selections which was good."

The Knights will wrap up their pre-season with a trial against Canberra in Queanbeyan next Saturday before the season opener against the Warriors on March 7 at Hunter Stadium.
