Broncos v Panthers preview

Brisbane Broncos v Penrith Panthers
Suncorp Stadium - Friday 7:35pm

After the extended break due to the representative weekend, Justin Hodges, Alex Glenn and Jordan Kahu will return for the Broncos. Darius Boyd was not named in the Broncos side on Tuesday afternoon, but may be a late inclusion as a return from injury. Sam Thaiday will miss this match after his crusher tackle on Martin Taupau in Sunday's ANZAC Test.

The Broncos are flying high after winning 6 of their past 7 matches, their only chink in that run a 2 point loss to the Dragons in round 7. Lachlan Maranta will play his 50th first grade game.

The Panthers have named an unchanged side from their last start, however we're anticipating a number of late changes. James Segeyaro, Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace are all rumoured to be returning, although we won't know exactly who'll run out until Friday afternoon.

The Panthers have held things together in the absence of several of their stars, but will be desperate for a win. A good showing against the competition leaders this week will go a long way to setting up the rest of the Panthers' season, as they currently drift around the wrong end of the top eight.

The Panthers luckily escaped the representative round without any major injuries, which is slightly surprising considering they had 6 of their side playing in rep games, and they've been unlucky with injuries all season so far. Fullback Matt Moylan will play, despite dislocating fingers in Country's win over City last weekend.

Last meeting: Round 18 2014 - Penrith Panthers 35 Brisbane Broncos 34

Who to watch: Ben Hunt has been in great form for the Broncos so far in 2015, and this week will likely be no exception. With Anthony Milford finding his feet in the side, the ever impressive Andrew McCullough, and the rumoured inclusion of Darius Boyd, the Broncos' spine is one of the better ones in the competition. Hunt's running game should pose some questions for the Panthers' defence.

Similarly, the rumoured inclusion of some of the Panthers' organisers should take the pressure of Matt Moylan. In the absence of Soward, Segeyaro and Wallace, Moylan has picked up a lot of slack with regard to organising his side, setting up 10 tries and 10 line breaks for his teammates. The Panthers' attack should lift to another level.

The favourite: The Broncos are heavy favourites at home, and most of the money has gone that way.

My tip: I'm not tipping against the Broncos. Not only are they top of the table, but they're at home, and they're not hammered by injuries. Broncos by 4.
