Panthers v Storm preview

Penrith Panthers v Melbourne Storm
Pepper Stadium - Saturday 7:30pm

Will the Panthers be able to tighten up against the embarrassed Storm?

While the end result didn't go their way, the Panthers displayed scintillating form in periods last Friday night during their loss to Parramatta. With Matt Moylan out for 6 weeks with an ankle injury, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak will start at fullback for the first time in his career, while Dean Whare and Tyrone Peachey make their returns from injury and suspension respectively. Despite falling victim to a late shot from Pauli Pauli last week, Jamie Soward has been named at five-eighth, but may be a late withdrawal; should this be the case, Adam Docker would come into the side for his first game of 2015.

Despite being dominated by the Roosters on Monday night, Melbourne will be looking to continue their strong form to consolidate their position inside the top four. With Billy Slater returning from injury after playing for the Maroons four days earlier, the Storm will be out to continue their incredible displays against Penrith, losing just once to the Panthers in a decade. Given that the Storm will be without their Origin stars next round, don't be surprised to see coach Craig Bellamy make a number of changes to the advertised side, including young half Ben Hampton on the bench.

Last Meeting: Round 24, 2014: Penrith Panthers 10 Melbourne Storm 24

Who to watch: Making his debut in the opening round of 2015, Reagan Campbell-Gillard has made tremendous progress in his rookie season in the NRL. Having featured in the Panthers premiership winning Under 20s and NSW Cup sides over the past two years, the Fijian and City Origin prop has worked his way into the starting side with a number of barnstorming performances in recent weeks. Averaging over 100 metres and 23 tackles a game, Campbell-Gillard will face one of the biggest challenges of his short career coming up against Jesse Bromwich on Saturday. However, if he is able to get the better of the Kiwi international, the Blacktown junior may find himself victorious at the end of 80 minutes.

He may have provided one of the funniest moments of the 2015 season on Monday night, but Ryan Hinchcliffe will be fully prepared to take on the Panthers come Saturday night. With doubts surrounding Robbie Farah's fitness for Origin Two, Hinchcliffe may find himself debuting for the Blues if he is able to produce another outstanding performance at the foot-of-the-mountains. Making over 30 tackles week in, week out; the former Raider has been one of the Storm's most consistent campaigners since joining in 2009. With many saying the glory days of the Storm have gone by, the Temora forward will be looking to prove doubters wrong with a win.

The favourite: Although both sides were down on form last week, the Storm are expected to collect the two-points leading into Origin Two.

My tip: In front of a vocal home crowd, Penrith will come away with a win in a close encounter. Panthers by 4.
