Sloppy Roosters ease past Titans

SYDNEY Roosters coach Trent Robinson won't want to watch a replay of his side's 20-10 victory over the Gold Coast Titans on the Central Coast.

They did enough to win and were never really troubled, but their handling errors which punctuated the performance won't please Robinson.

The win lifts them into third position on the ladder and second-rower Boyd Cordner labelled the performance sloppy.

"It was a bit sloppy at stages and we knew the Titans would be good today. They've been going well and have been in most of their games all season."

The Roosters opened the scoring through winger Shaun Kenny-Dowall before the Titans hit back when Anthony Don scooped up a loose pass from James Maloney to race 90 metres.

"We knew it was going to be an arm wrestle and probably took the pedal off the gas in the second half, but we grinded it out for a good win," Cordner said.

Michael Jennings extended the lead in the shadows of half-time and Maloney finished off another movement to the left hand side as the siren sounded.

The Roosters led 18-4 at the break and the second half was littered with handling errors from both sides with the tricolours completing just 11 of 23 sets.

Titans captain Nate Myles couldn't fault the effort of his side, but said they were going to do it tough without a host of regular first graders.

"Our effort was fantastic," he said.

"We've got about 10 of our top 25 out and some of them are our spine and it's difficult without them; we've got to start from scratch."

The only try of the second half came via former Rooster Nene Macdonald who won the race to the ball which was lying in the in-goal.

Halfback Daniel Mortimer grubbered a kick in behind the defence and instead of taking the tackle Roosters fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck tried to bat the ball over the touch in-goal line and instead was tangled up.

It summed up the second half.

Next week both teams will have the bye.
