World All Stars claim victory over Indigenous

The World All Stars have claimed victory over the Indigenous All Stars, 12-8, at Suncorp Stadium in the front of 37,339 as the Rugby League community celebrates Indigenous heritage.

Defence was the strong note of the opening half as both side muscle up holding out the attacking thrown around at both ends of the ground. While it was a pre-season game, both sides turned up to play.

It wasn't until the 35th minute the score attendant was troubled as the World All Stars cracked the Indigenous defence with a reaching effort from Konrard Hurrell. After a review from the newly created video referee bunker, the World team led 4-0 with a missed kick from Jarrod Croker.

Penrith Panthers youngster Leilani Latu finished off a quick passing movement by the Indigenous as they collected their first points at the 38th minute mark on the westerns sideline.

Half time saw the All Stars contest locked at 4-all.

Semi Radradra needed only two minutes into the new half to find the white line as the World All Stars grabbed their second four-pointer. A simple run around play in the far corner gave the World team a 6 point lead, 10-4 after 42 minutes.

Despite boos from the Suncorp crowd, Adam Reynolds opted for a penalty goal to extend the World All Stars lead to 12-4.

The Indigenous All Stars closed the gap to just four points as Dane Gagai was given an open space to score in the corner courtesy of a Jamie Soward long pass. The Indigenous trailed 12-8 inside the final 20 minutes.

Despite last minute efforts from the Indigenous, the defence from the World All Stars was enough to hold onto a four point lead.

The injury concerns from this contest saw a head knock to Jack Wighton as he sustained a heavy tackle at the hands of Jordan Kahu. Similarly, Greg Bird required stitches on his cheek as he was caught in a running tackle.
