Young Broncos thump Souths Logan

An inexperienced NRMA insurance Brisbane Broncos have produced an attacking master class in their NRL trial with Souths Logan, comprehensively defeating the Intrust Super Cup side 50-nil at Davies Park.

After being asked to lift in the wake of last week's attacking display, the Broncos' delivered on the words from coach Kurt Richards.

The Broncos were led from the front by rising star Caleb Timu, who registered a hat-trick in only his second proper game in two years.

The Broncos attack picked up where they left off in the second half as Todd Murphy dummied over the line only three minutes in to extend the visitors lead to 30 points.

In the 53rd minute hooker Jayden Berrell burrowed his way over in the right-hand corner to further extend the lead.

The floodgates were well and truly opened in the 60th minute when young fullback Jamayne Isaako snuck inside the left-hand corner to join the try-scoring party.

Second-rower Timu had a hat-trick three minutes later as the 21-year-old crashed his way over next to the uprights.

Murphy raised the flags from close range to take Brisbane out to a 44-nil lead.

As the clock began to wind down, players began to tire and mistakes crept into the game.

However the Broncos were not done with yet and with the last play of the match they bought up the magical 50-point mark.

Winger Elijah Alick streaked away and strolled over the try line to score underneath the posts.

Earlier, Brisbane received a dream start as Marion Seve dived over in the corner in the opening set of the game, the beneficiary of a well-timed Murphy offload.

The Broncos shot out to an early 10-nil lead in the seventh minute after Darren Nichols sliced through the Magpies' defensive line to crash down under the posts.

In the 19th minute a sweeping backline movement sent Carlin Anderson burrowing over in the corner to extend Brisbane's lead to 14.

After denying multiple short-range attacks from Souths-Logan, the Broncos got their chance inside the Magpies' half and Timu took the opportunity with both hands.

He beat two tacklers to score his first try since returning from his Mormon mission, Murphy slotting the conversion for Brisbane to lead 20-nil.

The talented second rower had a brace in the 32nd minute - this time Timu barged over from short range.

The two sides went searching for more points in the free-flowing contest but both went unrewarded as the Broncos went into the sheds leading 26-nil.

In the curtain raiser the Broncos' under 20s easily accounted for the Gold Coast Titans 46-6 in their trial game.
