Reports on Thursday indicate former Bulldogs boss and current NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg will win the race to become the NRL's new CEO.
News Limited reports initimated this morning that ARLC Chairman John Grant had been in touch with the other front-runner, Accor Hotels boss Simon McGrath, to let him know that Greenberg was the new CEO.
Suggestions are that the NRL could convene a press conference as soon as today to confirm the announcement, some five months after the departure of David Smith, the former NRL CEO who came in for repeated criticism from media and fans alike for his seeming detachment from the game.
Greenberg became CEO of the Canterbury-Bankstown side in 2008, guiding the club from a low-point as wooden spooners and a falling away in corporate support, to a Grand Final appearance in 2012 and a burgeoning list of partners including now long-term major sponsor Jaycar in 2009, as well as guiding the club to a full return to it's identity and original home in Belmore. Following his successful tenure at the blue-and-whites, Greenberg moved into his current role as the NRL's head of football. Prior to his time at Canterbury, he held roles with Cricket NSW and ANZ Stadium.
Once announced, the next task? Finding a replacement for Greenberg as head of football.
