Dylan Napa leads Roosters to first season victory

The Sydney Roosters have collected their first victory of the 2016 NRL Season as a Dylan Napa led outfit defeated South Sydney, 17-10 at ANZ Stadium with 18,161 in attendance.

South Sydney looked lost throughout the contest as they failed to click into gear as the Roosters kept them at bay. Daniel Tupou posted the first points of the night courtesy of a cross field kick from Jackson Hastings.

Aidan Guerra boosted the score after a referral to the NRL Bunker as he burrowed through three South Sydney defenders under the uprights. The tricolours made it a 10-0 lead after 25 minutes with the additional of a Hastings conversion.

A luckily break before half time saw the hosts bag their first four-pointer as Aaron Gray slipped into the corner via a tap on from Hymel Hunt. The Roosters well on top despite a leaked try, 10-4 after 40 minutes.

Dylan Napa's commitment didn't wavier in the second half as he was rewarded in the 46th minute as a solid kick chase earned his side another try. Jackson Hastings provided the foundation as the chip kick caught the Rabbitohs short. The Roosters in command, 16-4.

The game commenced an arm wrestle for the latter part of the second half as the Roosters looked to settle in on their lead. Hastings ended the wrestle as he slot a field goal to push the score beyond two converted tries, 17-4, in the 74th minute after two previous attempts.

South Sydney would have the final say in the match as a Shaun Kenny-Dowall wayward pass on the goal line gifted Cody Walker a try which closed proceedings in favour of the visiting Roosters, 17-10.

The Rabbitohs have a flight to prepare for as they head into Round 7 with a trek to North Queensland as they face the Cowboys on Friday Night. Meanwhile, the Roosters have an extended break as they look towards Monday Night against the Penrith Panthers.
