Downer to sponsor May 6 Test match

The NRL confirmed today that leading engineering and infrastructure group Downer would be naming rights sponsor of the May 6 Test between Australia and New Zealand.

The Test Match, at Newcastle's Hunter Stadium, will now be known as the Downer Test Match.

"It is wonderful to welcome Downer on board as naming rights partner for the May 6 Test Match," NRL Head of Commercial Andrew Abdo said.

"Downer's support of Rugby League through their partnership for this year's Auckland Nines was a great boost for the game so it is great to be able to extend that relationship.

"As a highly respected and successful business throughout both Australia and New Zealand, they are a great fit."

Downer employs about 19,000 people across more than 200 sites and projects, mostly in Australia and New Zealand but also in South America and Southern Africa.

Downer has also operated in the Hunter region for more than a century, and the company's presence there today includes operations based at Cardiff, Teralba, Hexham and Mt Thorley.

Downer provides customers in the Hunter region with a range of engineering and infrastructure services in sectors including road, rail, mining, utilities, technology and communications.

"Downer has extensive operations and a long and proud history, dating back more than a century, in both Australia and New Zealand," said the Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn.

"We are delighted to be supporting this trans-Tasman Test Match and look forward to what will be a great night of rugby league."
