NRL MATCH REVIEW: Round 21

Three players were charged from Friday night's clash between Canterbury and St. George Illawarra.

Friday | Bulldogs v Dragons

Dragons duo Tyson Frizell and Joel Thompson are each facing a week on the sidelines after picking up charges from Friday night's loss to Canterbury. Frizell is looking at a week for contact with referee Chris James in the fourth minute, which carries 125 points base penalty. He has 20% loading which sees the early plea rise to 112 points. Whether he fights unsuccessfully or takes the plea, he's set to miss a week.

Thompson's charge is a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle on Josh Jackson in the 50th minute - with 3 similar prior offences in the last two seasons, the 75 point base penalty attracks 150% loading to reach 187 points - add 29 points and a guilty finding if contested at judiciary would see Thompson get 2 weeks on the sidelines. An early plea (140 points) is just one week for Thompson.

RESULT: Frizell will contest his charge at the judiciary on Wednesday night, while Thompson has taken the early guilty plea and will miss Thursday's game against Brisbane.

JUDICIARY: Frizell was found guilty and will also miss Thursday's clash with the Broncos.

Canterbury's Josh Reynolds meanwhile escapes suspension despite one prior similar offence attracting 50% loading. The base penalty of 75 for a Grade 1 Trip increases to 112 if Reynolds is found guilty at judiciary, but an early plea would see him miss no game time (84 points).

RESULT: Reynolds takes the early plea and is free to play Newcastle next Saturday.

Sunday | Rabbitohs v Raiders

Rabbitohs enforcer Sam Burgess has been with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact (Other) charge from his side's 54-4 loss to the Raiders on Sunday. The incident happened in the 77th minute involving Canberra's Shannon Boyd.

The base penalty of 100 points is reduced to 75 with an early plea meaning he won't miss a game unless he is unsuccessful in pleading his case at the judiciary.

RESULT: Burgess takes the early plea and is free to play on Saturday night v Melbourne.

Monday | Titans v Sharks

Cronulla's James Maloney is facing 2 weeks for a Grade 2 Dangerous Contact (other) charge from an 88th minute tackle on Konrad Hurrell. The base charge of 250 increases to 300pts with 20% loading for a prior non-similar offence. An early plea (225pts) sees him miss 2 matches, while a contest at judiciary without success could result in a 3-match ban.

RESULT: Maloney opted to contest at judiciary.

JUDICIARY: Maloney was found not guilty by the NRL judiciary and is free to play Saturday against Canberra.

There were no charges from matches played on Thursday or Saturday, or Sunday's Manly v Newcastle clash.
