Australia have recorded a comfortable 54-12 win over Scotland to open the 2016 Four Nations series in Hull.
An opening blitz from the green and gold in front of 5,337 fans at Lightstream Stadium saw the visiting Kangaroos side take a 22-0 lead after just 16 minutes.
Blake Ferguson opened the scoring before Cooper Cronk added his name to the scoreboard twice, his two tries bookending a great effort from James Maloney.
With Scotland eventually righting the ship in defence, the Aussies only added two more tries before the break - both to Penrith winger Josh Mansour, both unconverted by Maloney.
Australia looked to take the 30-0 lead into the break, but Scotland had other ideas with Ryan Brierley stemming the 'Roos tide, scoring the Bravehearts' first ever try against the Aussie outfit at test level. Danny Brough's conversion sent both sides to the sheds with the Scots' trailing 30-6.
The second half was less enterprising from both sides, particularly with Cameron Smith leaving the field (rested) for Australia. Josh Dugan got the scoreboard ticking again just after the break, with Scotland second to score when Ben Kavanagh crossed in the 60th minute.
The Aussies were able to cap their performance with three tries in the final 15 minutes, with Tyson Frizell and Michael Morgan grabbing four-pointers, and debutant Jake Trbojevic benefiting from a superb Trent Merrin line break in the closing stages.
With the 42-point win under their belt, the Kangaroos are set up nicely ahead of next weekend's clash with the Kiwis in Coventry. Scotland will face England at the same venue prior to the Kiwis v Kangaroos clash.
