The defending premiers host the Broncos in what promises to be an absolute blockbuster to kick off the 2017 season. The Sharks have named Valentine Holmes in their 21 man squad, however he is at long odds to play with Gerard Beale named to start at fullback. Former Raider Edrick Lee will debut for the club on the wing, with 2016 Holden Cup Player of the Year, Jayden Brailey being handed his first grade debut, replacing Michael Ennis at hooker.

Darius Boyd debuts as captain of the side, after a career best year in 2016. Former Rooster and Cowboy Tautau Moga is the shock inclusion named at centre, with Jordan Kahu switching to the wing. The Green Machine has sprung a surprise in their backline with the loss of captain Jarrod Croker, replaced by regular backrower Elliott Whitehead at centre. Rookie teenager Nick Cotric will debut on the wing, replacing Edrick Lee who was granted a release to the Sharks last week.
