Storm sweeps through Mt Smart

In some of the most difficult conditions, the Storm have left a cloud over Mt Smart, beating the Warriors 26-10!

As rain bucketed down on Mt Smart, it was very surprising that each player could hold the ball quite well. The Storm began the scoring, with Kenneath Bromwich claiming a clever Cooper Cronk chip kick right under the posts, leaving Shaun Johnson very surprised.

Not too long after, a try to Tuimoala Lolohea was analysed by the bunker, with a numerous amount of incidents to be checked. The Warriors had all the players mastered, and the green light was shown to give the home side the kick-start they needed. By this time, the field was full of puddles, but Shaun Johnson kicked out of one from the sideline with no issues, and tied up the game 6-all.

An error from Storm's Josh Addo-Carr gave the Warriors another try - but once again, the try ruling headed upstairs, and we saw that Johnson took advantage of Addo-Carr's error, and the Warriors took a 10-6 lead.

The Storm turned the tables and gave the Warriors a punishing set, providing an opportunity for Cheyse Blair to get on the scoreboard. The big moment from this match, was Cameron Smith's conversion taking his premiership points tally to 2,001.

From that point onward, the Storm had a terrific end to the first half, with Cameron Smith kicking a 40/20, and three penalties heading Storms way. Both teams retreated to the sheds with Melbourne only up by a conversion, leading 12-10.

In the second half, the Storm continued to dish out hell on the Warriors, with a try in the first 3 minutes to Suliasi Vunivalu. A big run down the sideline from the Storm winger, and a conversion from Smith saw the Storm in front 18-10. After this point, the Warriors had a lucky 5 minutes, with four penalties heading their way. Solomone Kata crossed the line, but unfortunately had knocked-on, leaving Warriors fans reeling in desperation for a try.

A no try to Josh Addo-Carr left Storm fans seething, after an obstruction was called due to Cooper Cronk running a shepherd behind his own player, impeding the Warriors defence. A penalty shortly after saw the Storm take the two-points, and extend their lead to 10. From here, the Warriors started to get desperate.

A try to the Storm placed the final nail in the coffin in the closing minutes, and it was all over for the Warriors, the visitors running out victorious 26-10!

Next Week: The Warriors stay in NZ for an away game as they take on the Bulldogs on Friday night in Dunedin. The Storm head back to AAMI Park for their first home game against the Broncos on Thursday night.
