Salford captain Malcolm Alker on Friday ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year deal.
The 27-year-old hooker rejected the chance to play in Australia and is committing himself to the Reds until the end of the 2009 season, when the club expect to be in a new stadium.
?It?s a great day for the club,? said director of football Steve Simms.
?We are delighted that Malcolm has agreed to be part of our vision of moving to Barton. ?The staff, the players and everybody involved with the club are very happy indeed.
?He is one of the form hookers in the competition and I think the best is yet to come.
?He did have an offer from the NRL but he has a young family and he just felt at this stage in his career it wasn?t the right move for him.?
Alker, arguably the best uncapped hooker in Super League, has made more than 200 appearances for Salford since joining them from Wigan St Patricks in 1997.
Salford, meanwhile, are still waiting to hear if head coach Karl Harrison is to follow suit after being offered a new three-year deal.
?We?ve not pushed him at all,? added Simms. ?I?m sure next week he will get back to us.?
