Manly will give halfback Matt Orford until late this afternoon to prove his fitness for tonight's match with South Sydney at Telstra Stadium.

Orford is unlikely to play due to a thigh injury, but will have a final run with the team today before a final decision is made. If Orford is ruled out, Michael Monaghan will switch from hooker to halfback with Matt Ballin likely to be promoted from the bench to start at dummy half.

Souths can move into the competition's top eight with a win over the second-placed Sea Eagles tonight.

The Jersey Flegg curtain raiser for tonight's match has been postponed due to wet weather, with officials keen to preserve the pitch for the first grade game.

Parramatta halfback Tim Smith is confident he will recover in time from a dislocated shoulder to play for the Eels in their crunch match with St George Illawarra next Monday.

Smith was forced off the field four minutes into Friday's 14-10 loss to Melbourne, but returned to finish the match. He is still in doubt for the match against the Dragons, but is confident of being fit to return given the Eels' 10-day break between games.
