Baby Broncos belt Roosters

THE Brisbane Broncos have humiliated the Sydney Roosters with a 40-22 victory at Allianz Stadium in front of 9,738 fans.

Despite losing six players to Origin duties and being on the wrong end of some contentious calls, the Broncos never looked like losing the match.

It was all the visitors in the opening minutes as they dominated field possession, however, it was not until the 17th minute when Peter Wallace put Ben Te'o over that the scoreboard reflected the Broncos' efforts. Wallace added the extras.

The Broncos looked like they may have another try a few minutes after Andrew McCullough kicked a 40/20 and muscled his way over from dummy half in the following set. However video referee Bernard Sutton denied the Broncos hooker.

The home side hit back the 23rd minute after Jake Friend practically mimicked McCullough burst from dummy half to score a contentious to score a contentious try. Braith Anasta leveled the scores.

The Broncos reclaimed the lead 29th minute when Te'o put Gerard Beale over. Wallace failed to add the extras.

The Roosters leveled the score again in the 34th minute when Tinirau Arona was awarded a try. Anasta converted the try to give the Roosters the lead after replays showed Arona dropped the ball before grounding it.

A penalty to the Broncos with two minutes left in the half saw them right on the attack again and this time Wallace did it all himself. Wallace converted his own try to give his side a four-point lead heading into the break.

The Broncos did not take long to extend their lead in after the break, with captain Alex Glenn scoring in only the 44th minute on the back of a break from Lachlan Maranta on the back of a controversial play on. Wallace added the extras to put his side 10-points in front.

There was no controversy around Joeseph Leilua's try in the 50th minute, with the Roosters' centre scoring after receiving a wonderful ball from his captain. Anasta failed to convert the try.

Leilua looked like he may have his second a few minutes later, but he was ruled to have knocked on before grounding the ball.

Nobody could deny Corey Norman in the 60th minute when he scored under the posts courtesy of a Wallace kick and fortuitous ricochet of the post. Wallace added the extras to give his side a 12-point lead.

The Roosters' finally hit back with five minutes left in the match with rookie Tautau Moga showing why there has been so much hype surrounding him. Anasta nailed the conversion from the touchline to make it a six-point ballgame and keep his side in the match.

The efforts of Moga and Anasta were all undone only moments later when Frank Paul Nuuausala knocked on from the kick off. The Broncos went on to score in their set through debutante Lachlan Maranta. Wallace added the extras.

While the Roosters' faithful left the stadium, Anasta was not willing to give up on the game, opting for the short kickoff, Aiden Guerra followed through to claim possession for the Roosters. But, a mistake from Leilua on the second tackle saw it come unstuck.

The Broncos were a lot more successful converting their try scoring opportunity into points moments later after Norman forced a line drop out before a beautiful cut out pass from Wallace put Jack Reed over.

Today's win sees the Broncos two-points clear of the third placed Canterbury Bulldogs on the competition ladder and only two-wins behind the Storm.

As for the Roosters, today's defeat marks their fourth straight loss. They will head to Leichardt next week to try and turn their season around.
