Barrett confident he'll be fit

Australia's Tri Nations defence could receive a boost with injured five-eighth Trent Barrett confident of proving his fitness at training in Manchester today.

Barrett has been receiving treatment for a foot injury and will wear special orthopaedic inserts to help him overcome the problem. He says he's certain to be available for Saturday's final round robin pool game with Great Britain which will determine who plays in the November 26 final at Elland Road in Leeds.

Great Britain have injury problems with halfback Paul Deacon ruled out of the series after undergoing facial surgery. Winger Brian Carney has a slight hamstring niggle while fullback Paul Wellens is receiving treatment for a knee injury.

Both sides will train today with Wayne Bennett announcing his team this evening.
