Barrett on hold until Friday,
Gasnier to return tomorrow

Dragons Captain Trent Barrett won't discover the fate of his injured right knee until the end of the week.

The Test stand-off tore cartilage in his knee during training last week and couldn't travel with the team to Auckland, where a depleted Dragons outfit notched an impressive 16-10 victory over the NZ Warriors.

Barrett had been due to visit a specialist today to find out whether he'd be forced to go under the knife but he's been advised to rest the leg until Friday when the injury is reassessed.

The 26-year-old had a cortisone injection today to reduce swelling in the knee. Barrett says he's sick of being injured and is desperate to avoid surgery after missing most of the 2003 season with ankle and knee problems.

Meanwhile, troubled centre Mark Gasnier is expected to attend the NRL club's training session tomorrow morning at Oki Jubilee Stadium.

Gasnier has been given a week's leave to sort out personal problems.

The 22-year-old was due back at training today but was excused because it was a rehabilitation session and he wasn't injured. It's expected Gasnier will make his return through Premier League and miss this Sunday's NRL clash with Melbourne at Olympic Park.
