Bird back for Cowboys derby

Bird back for Cowboys derby

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans are set to be boosted by the return of State of Origin representative Greg Bird for Saturday's twilight Queensland derby against the North Queensland Cowboys at Skilled Park.

After missing the past three matches with a hamstring injury, Bird was today named by Jetstar Titans coach John Cartwright on an extended five-man interchange bench to tackle the Cowboys.

Dual-international Mat Rogers maintains his spot at five-eighth having helped the Jetstar Titans to three successive wins while in the No.6 jersey, with Bird making his comeback via the interchange bench.

The fourth-placed Titans will be looking to continue their momentum against the 14-placed Cowboys with just four weeks of the regular season remaining before the finals.

The Jetstar Titans have won three out of the six Queensland derbies played against the Cowboys since 2007, with both sides registering one win a piece at Skilled Park

Meanwhile, the Titans' NYC side will be looking to keep their finals hopes alive when they take on the table-topping Cowboys in the Toyota Cup curtain raiser from 3.15pm on Saturday.

The Titans Under-20s are currently in eighth spot on the ladder on 25 competition points, one point ahead of the ninth-placed Wests Tigers.
