iSelect Gold Coast Titans Co-Captain Greg Bird has tonight capped an outstanding year in all forms of the game by claiming the Paul Broughton Medal at the seventh annual Titans Awards Night at Jupiters Hotel & Casino.
A strong start to the year helped Bird establish a handy lead and despite a mid-season charge from centre Jamal Idris, who missed the final nine games of the season with a broken leg, the Co-Captain held on to win by four points.
Idris produced a sizzling seven-week charge midway through the season, picking up 17 of his 22 points from rounds 8-15 to take the lead after 15 rounds.
However, with Idris sidelined over the concluding weeks, Bird registered five points in the final five rounds of the season to steal the lead back and claim his first Paul Broughton Medal.
Halfback Albert Kelly was rewarded for his strong debut season for the club, finishing equal third alongside work horse Ashley Harrison on 12 points, just ahead of hooker Beau Falloon and Luke Douglas
A late season surge from young forward Ryan James saw him pick-up 10 points in the last six matches.
