Broncos defeat Comets in Rocky trial

The Brisbane Broncos have defeated the Central Comet 56-12 in yesterday's trial match in Rockhampton.

The Broncos led 46-0 at halftime.

With Brisbane hooker Michael Ennis and centre Steve Michaels both returning from injury, the Broncos looked to be in fine form, the NRL premiers readying for themselves for their World Club challenge later this month in the UK.

Michaels opened the scoring after just eight minutes before setting up the Broncos' second try six minutes later when Tame Tupou scored.

A procession of tries followed with Darius Boyd scoring in the corner to give the visitors a 46-0 halftime lead.

Comet backrower Todd Titmuss scored in the corner to get the home side on the board shortly after the break.

Winger Aiden Te Puke then scored a length of the field intercept try under the posts and five-eighth Nat Bowman converted to take the score to 46-12.

Local product Nick Kenny scored for the Broncos before another former Rockhampton player Jamie Simpson scored to give the Broncos as 56-12 victory.

The Comets outscored the Broncos in the second half by 12 points to 10.

Other Broncos' try scorers included Sam Thaiday, Dane Carlaw, Corey Parker, Joel Moon and Steve Michaels grabbed a double.

The 44-point victory was a impressive hitout for the Broncos. The premiers now head off to England for their World Club Challenge clash against Super League champions St Helens on February 23.
