Broncos end Raiders run

A Peter Wallace inspired Broncos outfit saw off the in form Raiders 34 points to 6 in front of more than 28,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium this afternoon.

The first half was one of the better halves of football this season, with both sides attacking from anywhere on the field. Remind anyone of those clashes between the two star studded sides of the early nineties?

Surprisingly despite the end to end action, it took until the 18th minute for the first four pointer to be scored through Karmichael Hunt. Peter Wallace followed up three minutes later and it was starting to look ominous for the men from Canberra. Trevor Thurling clawed one back for the Raiders in the danger period just prior to the break, and going in just 12 points to 6 down would have done wonders for the visitors confidence.

The second half began with a rash of knock ons and the news that livewire David Milne would not be back for the Raiders after suffering a head knock.

Sammy Thaiday latched on to a Wallace grubber in the 48th minute, and despite the Raiders going close through Colin Best and Terry Carney, the match was put on ice when Darius Boyd scored in the 66th minute.

Brisbane scored a couple of late tries to blow the score line out, including another last play of the game kick from Lockyer to Denan Kemp and it was all over at Suncorp.

So then, the Broncos second man play is alive and well and featured in just about every dangerous looking Broncos attack. Message to NRL coaches playing the Broncos in the upcoming rounds: Spend a lot of time during the week on defending this move and you will be half way to beating the Broncos.
