Broncos Feel Super League Boost in
Season Opener

The 'house full' signs were not needed at Griffin Park on Saturday night, and it was only a four figure crowd, but there are many other 'signs' around the Brentford home base that have delighted London Broncos management.

The opening weekend of Tetley's Super League IX a fortnight ago saw record attendance figures achieved for the game at the elite club level.

London Broncos first home game on Saturday attracted a crowd of 4757.

In comparison to the average crowd of 11583 set across the game in week one, this might look a little thin. But according to Broncos CEO Nic Cartwright, when you look a little closer, it's actually a very good result.

"You have to compare like with like and take into account a number of other variables when you set your targets and we have done that."

Our pre-sales were up 80% on last year's game at home to St Helens and the crowd itself was up 15%."

In terms of our first game crowd, we were 57% better off than last year."

And when you stop and take into account that, just two miles away as the crow flies, there was a 70,000 plus sell-out Rugby International at Twickenham, it does make an impression."

In terms of competing head on with another sport for business, we could not have asked for a tougher challenge but I think we came out pretty well. And in terms of the excitement of the event and game itself, I know we were on a winner at Griffin Park."

London Broncos will again line up at Griffin Park this Sunday when they play Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the fifth round of the Powergen Challenge Cup.

Kick off is at 3pm and discounted tickets can be bought in advance online at www.londonbroncos.co.uk or through the ticket booking hotline: 0871 222 1657.

Gates open at 1.30pm.
