Bulldogs trounce depleted Storm

Origin reject Josh Reynolds was a standout this afternoon as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs trounced the Melbourne Storm 39-0 in front of 16,406 fans.

Reynolds was not the only player who starred for the Bulldogs with fullback Ben Barba and centre Krisnan Inu also playing a hand.

A Reynolds 40/20 in only the tenth minute of the game saw the Bulldogs right on the attack and Inu was instrumental as he created a try for his winger Sam Perrett.

The Bulldogs absolutely dominated the metres battle as the game progressed and it translated into tries to Mitch Brown in the 25th minute and Tim Lafai in the final seconds of the half.

Frustratingly, Trent Hodkinson failed to convert a single try in the first half resulting in a kind scoreline for the Storm at the end of the half.

Sam Perrett claimed his second try early in the second half just as the Storm were looking dangerous. The Bulldogs' winger intercepted a pass on his own 20 metre line, running 80 metres to score. Hodkinson converted from in front.

Tony Williams scored a try only five minutes later in the 53rd minute when he muscled his way under the posts. Hodkinson added the extras again.

Mitch Brown scored his second on the back of the Williams try before Perrett claimed his hat-trick in the 65th minute. Ben Barba then showcased his talent in the 75 minute when he made a 40 metre line break before offloading to Reynolds and backing up to score himself under the posts.

With a few seconds to go and 38-point-lead Hodkinson decided it was as good a time as any to kick a field goal, leaving the final score at 39-0.

Both sides will enjoy a bye next week coming off Wednesday's State of Origin match - the Bulldogs then host Parramatta on Friday week, while the Storm have the fortnight to gear up for a trans-Tasman trip to face the Warriors in Auckland on Sunday 28 July.
