Carnegie Challenge Cup Rd 5 Review

St Helens were first team through to the sixth round draw with a thrilling win over near neighbours Warrington in an end to end game Adrian Morley and Chris Hicks crossed for the Wolves while Willie Talau, Chris Flannery and Francis Meli scored for Saints to lead 18-14 at the break. Saints led 40-24 into the last ten minutes of the game and held on despite late tries for Warrington from Ben Westwood and Simon Grix.

Champions Leeds Rhinos took control of their game and led 24-4 in the early stages of the second half, However led by the inspirational Danny Orr Quins roared back to lead 26-24 only for Great Britain Captain Jamie Peacock and Hat-trick hero Danny McGuire to score late tries and squeeze the Rhinos through.

Elsewhere their were comfortable wins for Bradford Bulls over last years runners-up Catalans Dragons with Semi Tadulala scoring a hat-trick. Wakefield Wildcats eased past Barrow up in Cumbria. National League 2 side Oldham thrashed Dewsbury Rams and are the only team outside Super League still left in the draw.

Hull FC were made to work hard as they defeated National league one side Widnes Vikings. Cross city rivals Hull KR also made the last eight with a comfortable win over Huddersfield Giants.

The only tie still to be played is Wigan Warriors versus Whitehaven which was postponed to Monday due to Premier league Soccer being played at Wigan
