Carnival Showdown at Kawana

THE RIGHT to represent Queensland will be at stake this weekend, when the most talented players outside the Wizard Cup face off in the QRL Division Open Age Carnival at Quad Park, Kawana.

Spread across Saturday and Sunday, the Carnival is to be contested by the six Divisions of the QRL.

These Divisions have selected the best players from their locally-affiliated leagues, who then vie for spots in the XXXX Queensland Rangers side to tour New Zealand in late June.

South West has been champion division for the past three years running, while this year?s host division ? Wide Bay ? last won in 2001.

For many players the Carnival and the XXXX Queensland Rangers team have been a stepping stone to higher honours. From last year?s XXXX Rangers side a total of 12 players have been contracted by Wizard Cup or NRL clubs this year.

Only players competing in QRL competitions below the Wizard Cup are eligible to make the final XXXX Rangers squad.

Some divisions have chosen players with brief experience in the Wizard Cup, who although ineligible to represent Rangers, will assist the performances of others from their division.

The draw for the QRL Division Open Age Carnival at Quad Park is as follows:

Saturday 27 May 3.00pm Northern v Central 4.30pm South West v Southern 6.00pm Wide Bay v South East

Sunday 28 May 11.30am Central v South West 1.00pm South East v Norther 2.30pm Southern v Wide Bay

Scoring: 3pts per win, 1.5 pts per draw, 0 points per loss, 1pt for most points per half.

Should teams be tied after the competition, postions will be determined on i) Most Wins, then ii) For and Against, then iii) Most Tries Scored, then iv) Least Penalties Incurred.
