Cents Back With A Bang

St Albans Centurions got their season off to a flying start with a 72-0 annihilation of St Ives in the RLC Cup at Woollams.

In the first game of the eastern group, the Cents scored 15 tries, with last season's top try-scorer Dene Miller helping himself to a record six. All bar one of the Centurions' nine tryscorers were British: John Longden scored two, Matt Saunders, Alex Murphy, Graham Lumley, Craig Gunnell, Brian Molyneux and debutant Dave Harries all got one each, with Australian full back Nick Walker kicking six goals to add to his try. England Amateur international stand-off Harries made his first appearance after signingfor St Albans from West London Sharks, as did South African forward Eugene Thompson.

The Cents, who are training at Woollams every Wednesday, have a free weekend before facing Hertfordshire rivals Hemel Stags in the RLC Cup on Sunday 14 March at Pennine Way, Hemel.
