Club Statements: ACC Investigation

Several clubs have confirmed via statements this morning that they have been mentioned in the Australian Crime Commission (ACC) report into Drugs in Sport.

Read on for the statements direct from the clubs:



North Queensland Cowboys

The North Queensland Cowboys can confirm they have been contacted this evening by the NRL in relation to information released by the Australian Crime Commission (ACC).

"We have been mentioned in the report but we have no information on the context," CEO Peter Jourdain said.

"Like all NRL clubs mentioned in this report, we will co-operate fully with the NRL and ASADA.

"Until we receive a briefing on Tuesday afternoon, we will not be making any further public comment.

"We strongly support this investigation."


Canberra Raiders

The Canberra Raiders can confirm they have been contacted by the NRL in relation to the recent Australian Crime Commission report.

Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner said the club will assist the NRL and ACC in any investigations surrounding the club.

"We can confirm we were contacted by the NRL late last night in relation to the ACC report, however we have no further details at this stage," Furner said. "As previously stated, we fully support any investigations by the NRL or the ACC in relations to these matters."

"Our club will continue to work with the NRL and ACC until these matters are resolved and will update our members, sponsors and supporters when we can."

"Until we are provided with more information we have no further comment on the matter."


Newcastle Knights

The Newcastle Knights have been contacted overnight by the NRL however the Club has no further information or details on the matter.

"Our Club will cooperate with any official enquiry," CEO Matt Gidley said.

"We maintain full confidence under the management of Wayne Bennett.

"Until we receive further information from the NRL and/or ASADA, there is nothing further we can add."


Penrith Panthers

Penrith Panthers Executive General Manager Football Phil Gould has released the following statement.

"Last night ARL Commissioner David Smith called to inform me that the Panthers club has been 'implicated or referred to' in the Australian Crime Commission Report.

"At this stage, that is all the information David was permitted to relay to us. No other details are available at this time.

"As we have stated previously, Panthers welcomes the opportunity to assist in any enquiry or investigation and we look forward to a speedy resolution to this matter, both for our club and the code of Rugby League.

We will do our best to keep our Sponsors, Members and fans informed as more details come to hand."


Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

The Sharks can confirm they were informed late last night that they are one of the clubs referred to in the ACC report.

As previously stated the Sharks will continue to provide full support to ASADA and the NRL in their ongoing investigations.

At this point in time the Sharks will not be making any further comment but will endeavour to keep sponsors, members and fans informed of any developments where possible.


Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles
