Costigan fined as Broncos close ranks

The Brisbane Broncos have fined forward Neville Costigan $5,000 after he was charged with drink driving.

The Broncos said in a statement the alleged offence occurred on Monday night and 21-year-old Costigan today admitted he had been charged. Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen says the club's extremely disappointed in Costigan.

The Broncos will also be considering whether further disciplinary action against the player is warranted. Broncos halfback Brett Seymour was last week accused of headbutting a young woman in a Brisbane hotel. Police have not laid any charges over that alleged incident.

Meanwhile, the club has made a surprise decision to train behind closed doors at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow. The Broncos have denied they're in a form slump after losing their past four matches.

They have only once before shut out media and fans from a training session. Brisbane, based at Red Hill, also rarely train at nearby Suncorp Stadium where they play ladder leaders Melbourne Storm on Sunday.

The Broncos need to win at least one of their last four matches to make the finals.
