Holiday Clinic for Referees

NRL Development will be holding a practical Referees Clinic Coffs Harbour in the upcoming school holidays.

NRL referees will be in attendance on the day to pass on their expert advice. This will be an opportunity for any interested officials to come and talk to some of the leading NRL names and to have them pass on tips regarding practical refereeing.

Local officials are encouraged to attend and gain from the experiences of some of the best referees in the country.

The day will include on-field training skills and drills to help referees with their positioning and communication with the players.

Results from Dunedoo Carnival

A big crowd was on hand to witness the second staging of the Robert "Dick" Large Invitational Rugby League Carnival at Robertson Oval, Dunedoo, last Saturday.

Played in hot conditions some good football was on display throughout the day, with one of the highlights for many of the spectators being the appearance of former Cronulla, NSW and Australian star David Peachey with the Dubbo Westside outfit.

Peachey's Rabbitohs accounted for the 2013 Centennial Coal Cup premiers, Kandos 32 nil in their first preliminary game but then they were dispatched by a similar score by the hosts, the Dunedoo Swans, in their second outing.

The Swans showed that they will again be a force in the Castlereagh League competition this year, scoring a massive 84 points throughout the day and conceding just four!

Lead by their highly talented captain-coach and half back, Tom Yeo, the green and whites saw off Kandos 24 to nil and Westside 32 to nil in the preliminaries before thumping the Coonamble Bears 28 to 4 in the final. The pairing of Yeo and youngster Mitch Squires in the halves went a long way to their domination throughout the day.

Squires, a Dunedoo local, is just out of the under 18 ranks, having played the last couple of seasons with the Mudgee Dragons, his debut in the senior ranks gaining much praise.

Whilst they were well beaten in the final it must be said that the revamped Coonamble Bears had a couple of tough games on the way to the final defeating Peak Hill 16 to 8 and then Trangie Magpies 12 to 4 and they had a number of players succumb to injury as a result

Despite losing to the Bears and going down by an identical score to Peak Hill, the Magpies showed a lot of enthusiasm and the young team should provide some stern opposition throughout the forthcoming season. The carnival was again hailed as an outstanding success and it should remain a welcome fixture on the Castlereagh League calendar for many years to come.
