Cowboys sack Sargeant over cocaine use

North Queensland prop Mitchell Sargent has reportedly been sacked from the NRL club after returning a positive test to cocaine.

Sargent returned a positive in-house test to the recreational drug earlier this month, according to News Limited. The Country Origin prop's future remains unclear, with the NRL expected to impose the mandatory two-year ban on Sargent.

The 27-year-old's positive drug test is the latest drama to engulf the Cowboys, who earlier this year denied a sex scandal and the club and will miss this year's playoffs after contesting last year's grand final.

Sargent is the first NRL player since?s Manly?s Andrew Walker in 2004 to test positive to a recreational drug.
