Darren Albert brings up quick ton

St Helens winger Darren Albert, officially rated the fastest man in the Engage Super League, will bring up one of the quickest centuries in Friday?s derby at Warrington.

Albert, who celebrated his 29th birthday this week, has missed just 10 matches for Saints since arriving from Australia just over three years ago and will make his 100th appearance for the club against Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

?I didn?t do that many in Australia so it?s a big milestone for me,? he said.

?It?s come around really quick, quicker than I expected.?

Albert, who scored 65 tries in 89 appearances for his former club Newcastle Knights in Australia, has touched down four times in his side?s first three matches this season to take his try tally for Saints to 64.

With Grand Final triumphs in both Australia and England and having appeared in two Challenge Cup finals, Albert has little left to achieve at club level.

But he has no intention of hanging up his boots in the foreseeable future.

?I?m out of contract this year but I wouldn?t mind doing another year or two,? Albert added.

?That would be great - I?ve really enjoyed my time here.

?I wouldn?t mind doing another season in Australia but that?s not to say I?m out there looking for it.

?I love being here and I would quite happily finish my career here.?

Albert has been named in the St Helens starting line-up for each of his previous 99 appearances by coach Ian Millward, who praised the winger?s consistency.

?When Darren came over, people thought he was injury-prone but he?s been the most durable player at the club,? said the Knowsley Road coach.

?In his first season he was the only one to play in every game.

?He?s been fantastic for us. Guys with his speed are hard to find.

?We?ve got a few players off contract this year but it?s too early to look at that yet.?
