Disappointment For
Tigers In Fox Memorial

Papakura Sea Eagles 20 Northcote Tigers 10

Weather conditions had a major impact on the standard of play but in the end the 2006 Lion Red Fox Memorial will be fought out next Sunday between the two most consistent teams of the season, Mt Albert Lions and Papakura Sea Eagles when the sea eagles secured the remaining Grand Final spot with a 20?0 win over the Northcote Tigers. It was the tigers who dominated the opening quarter and putting first points on the board but from then on it was all the sea eagles superbly led by #7 Tristan Waipouri directing the powerful Papakura pack. Coach Roger Rota also utilised his bench well with Bishop Phillips a stand out each time he took the field. Northcote will be disappointed with their overall performance with fullback Kevin Locke not playing to his usual standard and halfback Nicky Herbert completely shut down by a smothering defence and unable to get any pattern going. For the losing side, Darren Himiona and centre Tony Alo were the tigers best. Northcote for the record finish 3rd but it has been an outstanding season for the club who this time last year was newly promoted from the 3rd division Phelan Shield.
