REDCLIFFE DOLPHINS 35 defeat TOOWOOMBA CLYDESDALES 22

Redcliffe has claimed second spot on the ladder and its fourth win in a row after beating Toowoomba 35-22 in one of the best games seen so far this season.

Triumphant coach Anthony Griffin was moved to say there ?wasn?t a bad player on the pitch?, as the Dolphins and Clydesdales exhibited the slick play that has become synonymous with both clubs.

A deceptive final scoreline hid a contest where the lead changed constantly and only a Shane Perry drop goal four minutes from fulltime sealed the result, before a bonus try in the final seconds.

?They threw a lot at us and we threw a lot at them,? Griffin said.

?It was high quality stuff with the completion rates being so high for both sides. I guess you?d call it a good arm wrestle.?

Redcliffe?s win was made even more meritorious by the absence of props Adam Starr (suspension) and Troy Lindsay (quadriceps injury). Veteran Lindsay lasted less than five minutes before taking no further part in the match.

Boasting home ground advantage, the Dolphins led 18-16 at halftime and were made to work hard by Toowoomba?s scheming halves and impact men Ben Vaeau and Tame Tupou.

Nick Walker and newly promoted Damien Jentz filled the void up front, while Gerard Parle also shared the workload.

?We?ve beaten a few teams, but we really needed a good performance like that against a high quality team,? Griffin said.

?It was pleasing because it was a grafting win and we spent the majority of the second half without the ball and in our own territory.?

Aside from Perry?s game-sealing drop-goal, the artful five-eighth also scored an important try after halftime, as did rookie winger Chris Giumelli.

Next Saturday Redcliffe faces Easts at Langlands Park, while Toowoomba hosts local rival Ipswich at Clive Berghofer Stadium.
