Dragons dominant as Storm suffer fifth straight loss

DESPITE a few nervous moments St George Illawarra has defeated the Melbourne Storm 26-18 at WIN Stadium tonight in front of 11,477 delirious fans.

The Dragons win was set up with three tries in the opening 25 minutes as the home side raced out to an early 18-0 lead before the Storm surged back with two tries of their own before halftime.

Dragons and NSW Origin winger Brett Morris was the hero for the home side after scoring two length of the field efforts in his hat-trick as the Dragons kept their finals hopes alive.

Brett Morris opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a 100m intercept off a Billy Slater pass as the visitors appeared certain to score. Morris was again in the action several minutes later when the Dragons ran a second-man play down their left-hand side. Morris kicked back in-field with centre Beau Scott winning the race to the ball before being replaced minutes later with a groin injury. Front rower Trent Merrin added to the scoreline as he charged onto a simple inside ball from hooker Mitch Rein before scoring under the posts.
