The St George Illawarra Dragons confirmed on Wednesday their final trial game in the lead-up to the 2014 season, a combined trial match against the Mudgee Dragons and Illawarra Cutters at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Friday, February 7.
This will be the first “hit-out” for the Dragons and the first opportunity for Red V Members and fans alike to see the “new-look” squad and recruits to the Club for 2014.
Admission will be FREE for kids aged 14 years and younger while adults will be charged $5 at the gate on the day.
Head Coach Steve Price has indicated he is looking forward to the first trial of the season as it will provide an ideal opportunity to test out a variety of combinations across the field.
“It has been a long tough pre-season and the players are certainly excited to know that there are some games on the horizon,” said Price.
“The game against the Mudgee Dragons and the Cutters will be four quarters of 20 minutes and it will be our first game and a good test to see how the players perform in a game environment while putting into practice all the things that we have been working on throughout the pre-season.
“There are a lot of spots up for grabs so the players will certainly be looking to put their best foot forward.”
The NRL Auckland Nines will be the next hit-out for the Dragons on February 15-16 in New Zealand with the squad to be finalised the week before.
“The NRL Auckland Nines is an exciting new concept and will provide a fast-tempo environment that will be new and different for everyone,” said Price.
The final pre-season match for the Dragons will be the traditional Charity Shield Match which will be played at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on February 22.
Tickets are on pre-sale for Red V Members now and to the general public on Tuesday, January 28.
“The Charity Shield has a great history and tradition associated with it and it is always played with an intensity and atmosphere to rival an official round of the NRL so this will serve as the perfect final hit-out for our club,” said Price.
