The Cronulla Sharks have hit rockbottom after being thrashed 38-0 in front of 15,779 fans at WIN Stadium.
The Sharks looked confident as they came out onto the park, but this quickly disappeared as the Dragons ran rings around their players, notching up 18 points in the first half and a further 20 unanswered in the second.
Brett Morris continued his try scoring dominance of the competition with another hattrick, with Matt Cooper also crossing for two tries as both players dominated their sides of the field the entire match.
The match was riddled with errors at times, with the Dragons making 12 errors to the Sharks 13. However, the Sharks missed too many tackles early on (27) and combined with their inconsistent completion rate (17/31), they were simply no competition for a Dragons side showing good form at this stage of the competition.
It took just eight minutes for Brett Morris to cross for his first try, followed by Matt Cooper in the 12th minute. Just seven minutes later, Jason Nightingale crossed and St George were in front 18-0 at the break.
In the second half, Cronulla somehow had less intensity than the first and showed no interest in trying to get back into the match. In the 44th minute, Cooper crossed for his second try, followed by Neville Costigan just minutes later. Brett Morris finished the match with two tries in the 59th and 76th minute.
The Dragons are showing that they are premiership contenders this year, but their performance, at times riddled with errors, needs to improve if they are to provide a good contest against the higher ranking teams.
As for the Sharks, the only thing they can take from this game is that they cannot possibly get the wooden spoon this year.
