Drew injured but fit for season
opener

Canberra Raiders playmaker Brad Drew is expected to be fit for the club's season opening game against the St George-Illawarra Dragons despite suffering a sternum injury in a weekend trial match.

Drew was forced from the field during Canberra's 30-20 victory over Melbourne in Wagga Wagga. Doctors initially feared he had suffered a fractured sternum.

He was today cleared of a fracture but is not yet 100% positive of a round one appearance.

He will, however, return to light training this week.

"CT results show that Brad has not suffered any fracture, and we'll need to look at treating him symptomatically over the next couple of weeks," explained Club doctor Ian Murphy.

"If he is feeling comfortable to return to full contact training over the next week or so, he could be available to play in the opening competition round."
