Eels unpunished over nightclub session

Parramatta NRL officials are disappointed but will take no action against a group of players spotted drinking into the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident came just a week after Jarryd Hayne, Weller Hauraki and Junior Paulo were stood down for this Saturday night's season-opener against the Bulldogs after being involved in a altercation in Kings Cross following a late night drinking session.

An anonymous caller phoned Sydney radio station 2GB this morning alleging several players - including star halfback Tim Smith - were drinking and misbehaving at a Parramatta nightclub until 4am on Saturday.

The club spoke to the players and venue management and chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said they had no case to answer.

"I'm disappointed that a number of players were out late however we are satisfied that they were not misbehaving and they've been warned again about their responsibilities as professional athletes and public figures," Fitzgerald said.

"Management and the player leadership group have once again impressed upon all players that they conduct themselves in such a manner that will reduce the opportunity for this kind of attention in the future."

Fitzgerald denied earlier claims that Smith, who entered a Gold Coast rehabilitation centre last December to help deal with an alcohol problem, was banned by the club from drinking alcohol.
