St Helens clinched the Super League Leaders Shield by sharing the spoils with Wigan Warriors at the GPW Stadium Knowsley Road.

Played in damp conditions, Wigan capitalised on the hosts being down to 12-men with James Graham in the sin-bin and opened up a 12-0 lead with tries from George Carmont and Joel Tomkins. Matt Gidley pulled one back for Saints as they trailed 12-6 at the interval.

Pat Richards extended the visitors lead with a penalty goal before Saints hit back with tries from Ade Gardner and a second from Gidley to lead 16-12.

Richards kicked a long range penalty goal to level the game up at 16-16 and could have one it for the Warriors but he missed a last minute drop goal. The win for Wigan and Warrington defeat sets up next week
