St Helens 26 (Pryce, Cunningham, Talau, Meli, Gardner tries; Lyon 3 goals) def. Hull F.C. 4 (Domic try). Att: 72,582.
Hull started well but could not get over the St Helens line and on 16 minutes Francis Meli followed up Sean Long kick to slide over. The Black and Whites hit back to level the game as Sid Domic claimed the try in the corner after Motu Tony took Paul Cooke's kick and fed Shayne McMenemy. However, on the stroke of half time Leon Pryce found a gap to slide over to give the Saints a crucial 10-4 lead.
In the early stages of the second half, the Saints took complete control of the game with two quick fire tries from Willie Talau and Ade Gardner to lead 20-4. Hull tried to respond but St Helens cover defence - led by man of the match Harry Sunderland Trophy winner Paul Wellins - kept them out and with just under twenty minutes left in the game Keiron Cunningham scored the match winning try.
The match was also a fitting farewell for veteran prop Paul Anderson, who hung up his boots after collecting a third Super League ring on a record-equalling sixth Grand Final appearance. Jamie Lyon, who returns to the NRL with the Manly club, also went out on a high note by securing his second title in a row.
