All roads led to Cardiff as Super League went on the road. It was the first time that all twelve clubs played in one place and indoors-under the roof of the Millennium Stadium.

Harlequins and Catalans Dragons had the honour of getting Millennium Magic underway. The Quins started the stronger and raced into a 12-0 lead with Tyrone Smith and John Wells getting on the score-sheet. In the first quarter of the second half the Dragons got themselves into a 28-18 lead, John Wilson, Andrew Bentley and Jones all scored, However the Quins roared back and with tries from Paul Sykes and Chad Randall and with Rob Purdham kicking 6 from 6 they clinched the win in an entertaining game 32-28.
Hull KR gained their first Derby win over rivals Hull FC in over ten years. Led by the controversial Paul Cooke - playing against his old club for the first time - Rovers opened up a 14-0 lead with tries from Makali Aizure and Ben Cockayne. Cooke also kicked three goals.
