Gameplan Works

The Redcliffe Dolphins moved into equal fourth spot on the Queensland Cup ladder after their 32-20 away win over North Queensland in Cairns on Saturday. The opening 20 minutes was a war of attrition but Redcliffe broke the deadlock with a try to former Cowboy Brian Jellick in the 21st minute. Redcliffe coach Neil Wharton knew the opening stages would be vital and was pleased with his team?s defensive efforts, especially after they were reduced to 15 fit men. Late inclusion Danny Burke came off early in the game and did not return, while front-rower Adam Starr turned in an outstanding effort despite being in bed vomiting just hours before kick off and Matt Anderton recovered from a twisted ankle in the warm up to take his place on the bench. Redcliffe pushed it?s lead out to 20-4 at halftime with tries to Jellick, Ben Jones, Joel Barnes and Nathan Sologinkin. Playmakers Shane Perry and Mick Roberts were involved in well crafted tries from kicks. Second half tries to Danny Green and Perry gave Redcliffe a much needed victory. Wharton said Adam Starr, Troy Lindsay and Ben Jones were the cornerstone for the victory laying the platform for the backs to strut their stuff. Redcliffe 32 (J.Barnes, B.Jellick, B.Jones, S.Perry, D.Green, N.Sologinkin tries J.McKay 3, D.Richters goals) North Queensland 20 (B.Bowen 2, V.Akiba, M.Scott tries B.Bowen, D.Limpus goals)
