Giants Star Signs New Deal

Shaun Lunt has signed a contract extension with the Huddersfield Giants to remain in the claret and gold until the end of the 2015 season.

The recruitment and retention long term of players who really want to wear the claret and gold and be part of something very special down here is a continual process throughout all our age groups right through to the first team. I am sure that everyone will be delighted that Shaun is a Giant for the foreseeable future and he gives this club another high quality international player with a long term commitment to go alongside Luke Robinson, Kevin Brown and Danny Brough in the pivotal positions and Eorl Crabtree up front which has to be good for our short and long term success. I expect that we will be making further announcements in the not too distant future which will further strengthen our playing roster going forward. For now I hope that the supporters turn out in great numbers on Saturday for our game here againsts St Helens and give Lunty the reception and congratulations that he thoroughly deserves."The England International hooker had been the source of NRL speculation but is glad to put pen to paper at the Galpharm Stadium: "It is absolutely brilliant to sort my long term future out at the Club. We have a fantastic playing squad here at the Giants. I have a lot of friends in Huddersfield both at the Club and from the surrounding area. We have key members of the squad tied down to long term contracts with the likes of Kevin Brown, Danny Brough and Luke Robinson signed up alongside lots of high quality youngsters coming through. We have good depth to the squad with the mix of youth and experience and we will continue to push hard for honours. Although there was talk of playing overseas to stay at the Giants is really important to me and so when the Club came in with the offer for me to remain here I didn't want to play anywhere else.

Head Coach Nathan Brown was pleased to see Lunt commit his future to the Giants: "This is great news for the Club. To see him sign for the Giants from Workington and see him progress to play for England and extend his time here is good news for the Club and for Lunty going forward.  The more good English players the Giants can sign the better. To see him and Robbo working together along with Kev (Brown) and Broughy (Danny Brough) long term can only help the Club to prosper. Getting players playing in key positions together for long periods of time helps have good stability in key areas."
