Glenn Hall the big winner at Jets Awards night

Tough Newtown Jets front-rower Glenn Hall scooped the major awards at the recent Newtown RLFC Presentation Night, held in front of a packed crowd at the Jets Sports Club in Tempe.

Hall won the Newtown Jets VB Premier League players? player award, the VB Premier League best and fairest award, as well as the prestigious Fred Daly Memorial Shield for the player who has contributed most to the well-being of the club over the past season.

Another front-rower in Ritchie Parker won the major prizes for the Jets Jim Beam Cup team ? the best and fairest and the players? player awards.

Other major awards winners were:

Best Backs ? Aidan Kirk (Premier League) and Toufic Nicolas (Jim Beam Cup);

Rookie of the Year ? Mitch Aubusson (Premier League) and Khalid Deeb (Jim Beam Cup);

Coaches? awards ? Troy Malcolm (Premier League) and Matt Habojan (Jim Beam Cup);

Leading Points Scorers ? Josh Lewis (Premier League) and Toufic Nicolas (Jim Beam Cup);

Leading Try Scorers ? Troy Malcolm (Premier League) and Clint Stowers (Jim Beam Cup);

Clubman of the Year ? Greg Matterson (Football Staff) and Brad Mitchell and Bram Williams (Volunteers).

A special award was made to the three Paea brothers - Lelea, Lopini and Mickey ? for being the first trio of brothers to play first grade for Newtown in the one team in the same year since the legendary Farnsworth brothers back in 1911 ? 95 years ago!

Other awards were made to Dr. Bassam Moses for medical services and to Gary Sutherland and Mike Biboudis for photographic services.

The Newtown Jets Club President Barry Vining said in his keynote speech that everybody associated with Australia?s oldest Rugby League club could take immense pride out of the achievements of the 2006 season, and that the public profile and media recognition of the Newtown club was at an all-time high since the club had competed in the NSW Rugby League first grade competition in the early 1980?s. He also paid tribute to the club?s many sponsors who played such an important role in enabling this proud old club to compete in such high levels of professional Rugby League football.
